Tawses


Our tawses are made from three different types of leather, and although in some cases there is no great difference in thickness, there is a marked difference in terms of severity! Our Lochgelly style follows the original shape from that area. At one time teachers in Glasgow could only use a tawse that was issued to them by the local education authority. The original Glasgow tawses were frequently of poor quality, which encouraged teachers to break the rules and buy a more substantial tawse from Lochgelly. Although we follow the traditional shape for this style, we use much better leather. All tawses have carefully rounded and hand polished edges.
These are as close as you will find to an original, at a fraction of the cost.

TWO TAIL LOCHGELLY STYLE TAWSE (Medium) - £27.50 - Color:

This tawse is made from a fairly supple hide that is a minumum of 3/16" thick. It is 24" long and 1 1/4" wide, and has two tails. It has the makers stamp and the letter M for medium weight.
 
THREE TAIL LOCHGELLY STYLE TAWSE (Medium) - £33.00 - Color:

This tawse is made from a fairly supple hide that is a minumum of 3/16" thick. It is 24" long and 1 1/2" wide, and has three tails. It has the makers stamp and the letter M for medium weight.
 
THE GLASGOW STYLE TAWSE (Medium) - £35.20 - Color:

This tawse is made from a fairly supple hide that is a minumum of 3/16" thick. It is 24" long and 1 11/16" wide and has three tails. It has the makers stamp, but no weight stamp as this was not traditional.

This tawse is made from a supple, heavy hide that is a minumum of 15/64" thick. It is 24" long and 1 1/4" wide and has two tails. It has the makers stamp and the letter H for heavy weight.

This tawse is made from a supple, heavy hide that is a minumum of 15/64" thick. It is 24" long and 1 1/2" wide, and has three tails. It has the makers stamp and the letter H for heavy weight.

This strap is made from a supple, heavy hide that is a minumum of 15/64" thick. It is 24" long and 1 11/16" wide and has three tails. It has the makers stamp, but no weight stamp as this was not traditional.
